This breed is named after Thomas walker who imported English foxhounds into Virginia in 1742 .its task of treeing involves confining an opossum or raccoon to a tree, then altering its howl, telling the hunter that game is cornered. As do all coonhounds, this makes an elegant family companion when raised from puppy hood in a home environment
